Jacobs currently employs over 300 environmental consultants nationally. Our team work across all of Jacobs’ market sectors including transport, Defence, mining, oil and gas, water and power. We cover a broad range of environmental services including; noise, air, vibration, terrestrial, aquatic and marine ecology, groundwater, surface water, indigenous and historical heritage, social assessment, stakeholder and community consultation, contaminated lands, auditing and due diligence, town, strategic and environmental planning and spatial analysis. We also provide full project services from pre-feasibility siting and route alignment assessments, full project environmental impact assessment studies, planning, construction and operational EMPs, approvals identification and negotiation during feasibility, as well as environmental management services during construction, operation and decommissioning.
With a strong pipeline of work in Queensland, we are looking for a number of Ecologists with skills in terrestrial, aquatic and/or marine ecology to join our Water & Environment team based in South Brisbane.
The purpose of this role is to support our team with undertaking ecological surveys and reporting, principally within Queensland, but with some scope for other states. You’ll also provide ecological advice to Jacobs Project Managers and clients, support the Jacobs ecologists in the winning of work, assist with project execution management and delivery and undertake a variety of specialist roles relating to project delivery, based on relevant experience. Types of input will relate to flora and fauna assessments, threatened species and habitat identification and assessment, ecological monitoring, impact assessment at sites proposed for development, development of mitigation and management recommendations relating to proposed developments.
Key tasks include, but are not limited to:
Providing technical input for the ecology component of multi-disciplinary projects across Australia
In conjunction with managers assume accountability for project outcomes including client service and satisfaction, budget management, quality management and on-the-job staff development and training.
Undertaking ecological investigations including field work, analysis and interpretation of data, and preparation of reports
Developing and diversifying ecological skills through project experience and training
Assisting with writing proposals for land ecological and broader environmental investigations
Assisting project managers to resolve resourcing conflicts or bottlenecks
Development and marketing of the ecology and broader environment business including building internal and external client relationships and networks
Project management of small projects
Supporting and motivating other team members to achieve “best for project” outcomes
Assisting to maintain Jacobs’ reputation as a key service provider for relationship clients (at a project level), where applicable.
You will be an experienced ecologist working in either terrestrial, aquatic and/or marine environments with a strong desire to “get the job done” professionally, cost effectively and within deadlines.
Key requirements for the role include:
Hold appropriate Ecology related Environmental Science degree or similar
Understand and comply with environmental science and management legislative requirements and industry practices
Demonstrable experience with the implementation of effective project management of ecology related projects
Experience in working as an ecologist in a consulting firm, preferably having worked on major infrastructure projects
Strong understanding of Queensland’s biodiversity, particularly in terms of field species identification (in either terrestrial, aquatic or marine)
Field survey experience – planning, mobilising and managing
Previous experience working on marine vessels is desirable
Driver’s license essential, 4wd experience/qualification useful
Highly developed written and verbal communication skills
