Society of Manufacturing Engineers Industry Manager - Additive Manufacturing in Southfield, Michigan

The Industry Manager - Additive Manufacturing (AM) is a key strategic role responsible for fostering industry and technical expertise in Additive Manufacturing (AM) within the organization. This role requires a deep understanding of the AM ecosystem, a thorough knowledge of AM technologies, excellent interpersonal skills, a natural ability to represent SME in industry groups, a passion for building strategic relationships with OEMs, Industry Partners, and other key stakeholders.

*MAJOR FUNCTIONS: *

  • Work closely with Product team to integrate industry knowledge and insights into product strategies.
  • Provide valuable technical input to guide the development of AM-related products and solutions.
  • Actively network and recruit industry contacts to participate in SME and other AM-related organizations.
  • Develop a thorough understanding and promote SME's presence and expertise within key industry groups.
  • Establish strategic relationships with OEMs to drive collaboration and growth opportunities.
  • Nurture strategic relationships with Industry Partners and Media to create and communicate value.
  • Identify and pursue business development opportunities within the AM ecosystem.
  • Develop and maintain expert-level knowledge in industry developments and trends.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and market trends relevant to AM.
  • Serve as the internal Subject Matter Expert (SME)  for all matters related to AM.
  • Act as a liaison between technical teams and other departments to ensure alignment with AM initiatives.
  • Engage with industry experts and thought leaders to facilitate knowledge exchange.
  • Support product groups and help organize/moderate AM technical panels, discussions, and webinars.
  • Represent SME as needed on various industry committees and technical working groups.
  • Influence and contribute to the development of industry standards and best practices.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical field (e.g., Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or similar business degree) Advanced degrees preferred.

Proven experience in Additive Manufacturing (AM) with a strong industry and technical background.

Minimum of 5 years of experience in additive manufacturing. 

Excellent communication and presentation skills.

Ability to represent the organization at industry events and to moderate technical panels.

Strong networking skills and the ability to build and maintain relationships within the AM community.

Strategic thinking and the ability to identify and act on industry trends and opportunities.

Proactive, self-motivated, and able to work independently and as part of a team.
