Maintenance Mechanic

Position is Located in Stillwater, OK

*This is a safety-sensitive position.

Position Summary

Purpose of the Job

The Maintenance Mechanic will provide support to perform acceptance testing on a variety of new equipment. This person will support the installation of new equipment in many cases working with the vendors. This person will perform emergency mechanical, electronic, and low voltage electrical repairs to all manufacturing equipment in the facility. The mechanic will complete assigned preventive maintenance and assist with routine troubleshooting and repair of AC/DC drives and motors, power supplies, electronic circuit boards, programmable logic controllers, CNC controls and interfacing, electrical wiring, switches, relays, and other various electrical and electronic systems.

Essential Job Responsibilities:
  • Use hand and power tools and electrical test equipment to repair industrial equipment.

  • Install or relocate electrical conduit, wiring, outlets, breakers, transformers, lighting, and disconnect switches in accordance with the National Electrical Code requirements.

  • Troubleshoot, repair and correct electrical, instrumentation and process problems associated with production equipment.

  • Repair or replace mechanical components such as: gears, shafts, sprockets, chains, and bearings.

  • Repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems to component level.

  • Perform Preventive Maintenance on production and support equipment.

  • Maintain, install, and assist with the installation of relays, photo-eyes, limit switches, proximity switches, solenoid valves, motors, starters, VFD’s, PLC I/O modules, and safety circuits.

  • Installation of wire and troubleshoot analog control devices (level, temperature, flow, pressure, load cells, loop controls, encoders).

  • Assist with the testing of electrical equipment, such as AC/DC drives, motors, and controls using standard test equipment and by observing system and unit operations.

  • Demonstrate safe work practices ensuring safety of personnel and safe operation of equipment, including, but not limited to: confined space entry, lockout/tag-out, hot work permits, use of welding curtains, safe handling of chemicals and emergency response procedures.

  • Work with contractors and/or suppliers to repair, install, remove and/or upgrade equipment, automatic control circuits and power distribution panels.

  • Provide effective transfer of information on-shift and between shifts on condition of equipment and performance issues.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement results by suggesting line and equipment performance improvement ideas.

  • Complete necessary training to upgrade skills pertaining to effective maintenance of equipment and systems.

  • Perform equipment acceptance testing on an as needed basis.

    Required Qualifications and Skills:

Education:

  • Associates degree or 3 or more years of experience in an industrial environment working on machine tools and controls.

    Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment depending upon educational qualifications.

  • Able to handle multiple complex activities at once.

  • Must possess strong interpersonal/communication skills and effective writing skills.

  • Able to work with minimum supervision - alone or with a team.

  • Takes initiative and displays a pro-active no-nonsense attitude.

  • Stress resistant.

  • Possess a basic knowledge of Arc Flash requirements and practices.

  • Solid troubleshooting skills related to electrical/electronic machinery and equipment a must.

  • Interfacing, pneumatics, and hydraulics knowledge required.

  • CNC Controls knowledge, preferred.

  • Familiar with control and drive systems from Siemens, Fanuc and Okuma, preferred.

  • Experience and knowledge of occupational hazards and required safety precautions in working with low voltage energized lines required.

  • Understanding of basic Lockout/Tagout procedures required.

  • Ability to read and understand electrical, electronic, and mechanical schematics, drawings, and blueprints, required.

  • Ability to install, wire and maintain relays, photo-eyes, limit switches, proximity switches, solenoid valves, motors, starters, VFD’s, PLC I/O modules, and safety circuits required.

  • Ability to install, wire and troubleshoot analog control devices (positioning and velocity closed loop systems, temperature, flow, pressure, load cells, loop controls) required.

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs required.

  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment.

  • Must be able to work in a 3-shift operation.

  • Experience with a maintenance software package a plus.

  • Limited travel may be required.
