Rise Baking Company Food Scientist I in Tucker, Georgia

Job Purpose

Create new and modify existing cookie and bar offerings for Rise Baking Company, functioning as the subject-matter

expert in the research and development of system processes for product commercialization.

Essential Functions

• Collaborate with Sales throughout product development lifecycle to create high quality, innovative, cost and

operationally effective products that appeal to customers

• Receive, organize, and process sample requests

• Develop or replicate products/flavors for customer requests

• Lead the implementation of projects involving product improvement, cost reduction, GMP compliance, food

safety, and employee safety

• Organize and complete shelf life evaluations including organoleptic assessments

• Compile and analyze data to summarize results from personal and team analyses

• Engage with Operations, Engineering, and Quality Assurance to ensure all product formulations, processes, and

specifications meet defined standards

• Support new item setups including plant tests and pilot runs, ensuring the migration of products from one facility

to another occurs with rigor and high quality

• Document and draw conclusions/next steps from experimental results or production trials

• Troubleshoot and resolve various technical project challenges with the support of the supervisor

• Oversee the lab’s daily tasks and activities in the absence of the supervisor

• Represent R&D in absence of supervisor in key cross-functional meetings and collaborate with team members in

various departments, including Marketing, Finance, Operations, Quality Assurance, Procurement, CoManufacturing, etc.

• Further knowledge in new materials, processes, and equipment to enhance the technical understanding of the

R&D team

• Support food safety program, quality standards, and legality of products manufactured in the facility

• Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Qualifications (Education/Experience)

• Bachelor’s degree in food science or related field with 1-3 years of food science experience

• 2-4+ years in R&D product development, food and/or beverage industry

• Knowledge of all stages of the product development life cycle

• Understanding of manufacturing equipment, their processes, and capabilities

• Knowledge of product formulations and modification techniques

• Strong passion for science, creative problem solving, and product development

• Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office programs: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint

• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills

• Detail oriented with strong problem solving and analytical skills

• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently, organize and prioritize, show flexibility, and multi-task to

execute simultaneous projects and activities to meet objectives and deadlines

• Ability to thrive in a fast-moving and constantly evolving high growth environment
