The Director, Commercial and Microgrid Digital Product Position

Sunnova Energy is searching for Director, Commercial and Microgrid Digital Product to be responsible to drive transformational change of the electric industry with software.

At Sunnova, the software team is responsible for creating customer experiences to enable wide-scale adoption of solar and storage services. This role will own software product management for commercial sales, installation, operations, monitoring and control, plus microgrid software. The Director will engage commercial and microgrid customers to understand their pain points and identify opportunities, partner with business stakeholders to create technology roadmaps designed around innovation and impact, and deliver against that roadmap.

This individual will also facilitate change management and business readiness for released features.

Director, Commercial and Microgrid Digital Product Responsibilities

  • Invent the next generation of software experiences for the energy industry, including transforming how commercial solar and storage are purchased, delivered, and operated and establish a software foundation for the operation and management of residential and commercial microgrid deployments

  • Partners with commercial and microgrid stakeholders across all departments to establish and maintain a shared understanding of each team’s role in creating a great Sunnova customer experience; identify opportunities for software to support ongoing improvement and growth. Owns the definition and refinement of the Lead-to-Service processes for both commercial and microgrids

  • Leads product development using human-centric design principles, facilitating customer interviews & UX research designed to validate and inform product direction

  • Own the product vision and roadmap for the commercial and microgrid experiences; evangelize this vision using a simple, compelling story that aligns to broader Sunnova strategic goals while maintaining responsible, measured investment in information systems

  • Actively maintain a view of the commercial software competitive landscape, microgrid landscape, emerging software and energy technologies, and future customer needs

  • Create and maintains a software product backlog that is continually refreshed to reflect changing business conditions and data-derived insights; use product judgment and prioritization practices to keep the team oriented toward impact

  • Call out risk early; approach tradeoff evaluation as a partnership, clearly communicating the key factors driving a software recommendation

  • Facilitate change adoption and business readiness for new features & products, including creating and delivering training content as necessary

  • Adhere to Sunnova Product Management standards and practices

    Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required

  • 10+ years of related business experience

  • 5+ years of experience managing product or engineering teams

  • 4+ years of experience with agile

  • 4+ years of experience managing people

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Agile Product Owner certification preferred

  • Experience interacting with technology solutions aligned to business functions and working across departments following a consultative approach

  • 2+ years of experience with supporting/facilitating projects in Salesforce preferred

  • 2+ years of experience in a functional area that aligns to Sunnova business units or related field preferred

    Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Understanding of Six Sigma or other process improvement methodologies

  • Strong data analysis experience, including SQL or other query languages/techniques

  • Thorough understanding of Project Life Cycle management controls

    Working Conditions

  • Open office environment with some key stakeholders working in remote locations

  • Schedule needs to be flexible to the needs of the business and may require weekend or evening availability to support software releases
