Rosalyn Yalow Charter School Special Education Teacher (Immediate Start) in United States

The Rosalyn Yalow Charter School is seeking a Special Education Teacher for grades k–5. Yalow was named a 2020 Achievement Recognition School by the New York State Education Department, ranking Yalow among the top 13% of the 4,782 public and charter schools in the state.

This position is critical to our success and will ensure that CKLA and/or STEP are being implemented to the fullest potential.

Qualifications:

• Master's degree preferred

• Dual certification in Special Education and/or ESL/Bilingual Extension/TESOL preferred

• Demonstrated effective classroom management techniques, incorporating principles of character

education, ethics, and student accountability

• Being bilingual in Spanish a plus

• Minimum of 3 years of successful full-time classroom teaching experience in a culturally diverse, urban

environment

• Experience developing and executing lesson plans aligned to the New York State Common Core Standards

• Familiarity with Singapore math and Core Knowledge Language Arts curricula strongly preferred but not

mandatory

• Ability to identify students' challenges to learning, implement timely and consistent RTIs, and work

collaboratively to address the cognitive, social, and emotional well-being of students

• Data-Driven: Ongoing quantitative and qualitative data analysis, record keeping, and progress monitoring

of student learning

pace, and rigor

• Respect and concern for children, their parents/guardians; maintenance of ongoing communication with

parents in the form of home visits, team meetings, telephone conferences, correspondence, workshops,

etc.; strict adherence to FERPA, HIPAA, and confidentiality requirements in dealing with sensitive issues

concerning students and their families

or above grade level in literacy and math.

Rosalyn Yalow Charter School uses the collaborative teaching approach—a lead teacher and one with a background in

social work for grades K-2. Students will be provided a strong foundation in literacy, using the Core Knowledge Language

Arts (CKLA) program (assessed through the STEP Literacy Assessment) and Singapore math (assessed through NWEA).

The extended school day will run from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.—filled with rich extracurricular activities (arts, chess,

fencing).
