Work Designation. Depending on your location within the continental US, this role may behybridorremote.

You will work from your home (within the continental US) for the remaining portion of the work week. Details of this schedule will be discussed with your leadership.

    What does it take to be successful in this role?

    • Strong leadership and time management skills

    • Technically proficient in reporting and accounting for financial instruments

    • Proficient in applying US GAAP and US STAT accounting concepts and all required reporting, e.g., 10K/Q and statutory blue book schedule and Notes preparation

    • Knowledge, understanding, and ability to interpret and plan the implementation of accounting guidance promulgated by FASB, SEC and other organizations or committees issuing authoritative accounting guidance

    • Excellent presentation, oral, written, and interpersonal communications skills

    • Proficient in Microsoft Office business suite of software

    • Familiarity with major Investment Accounting applications such as CAMRA, PAM for Securities, SunGard, Clearwater Analytics, FAM, SAP, etc.

    Education & Experience Required

  • Bachelor's Degree In Accounting, Finance or a related field

  • Ten years of professional job-related experience

  • Five years of experience in a leadership/supervisory capacity

    Or an equivalent combination of education and experience

    Education & Experience Preferred

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Certification

  • Five years of experience in investment accounting in the insurance industry in an accounting operations or reporting role

    Principal Duties & Responsibilities

    • Provides coaching, leadership development, and direction to Investment Accounting Operations staff reporting to this position

    • Maintains the organizational framework and provides the necessary leadership to ensure the ongoing availability of a qualified and motivated staff to meet current needs and planned future growth

    • Establishes, maintains, and monitors the design and effectiveness of the system of internal control over the Investment Accounting Operations function and recommends modifications to the Investment Accounting risk control matrix (RCM), as needed, after consultation with Investment Accounting management and Internal Audit

    • Reviews processes utilizing the Finance Division’s formal continuous improvement framework and tools, to identify opportunities to increase efficiency, effectiveness and/or controls

    • Assists in the review process of the company’s various regulatory filings with executive and senior financial management, and the company’s external auditors

    • Leads the investment accounting operations team to ensure investment transactions are properly recorded in the Investment Accounting sub-ledger

    • Works closely with the Accounting Policy team to implement new pronouncements from the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB), Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and other regulatory authorities and to ensure conformity in financial applications and the implementation of all related disclosure and reporting requirements

    • Participates with a cross-section of Finance, Tax, Aflac Japan, and Global Investments on detailed analyses of proposed Investment-related accounting impacts on the Company’s financial position

    • Provides leadership in managing cross functional projects for various required activities, such as but not limited to: purchasing new asset classes, accounting for new transactions, implementing new applications or systems for process accounting transactions, etc.

    • Performs other related duties as required

    Total Rewards

    This compensation range is specific to the job level and takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to: education, experience, licensure, certifications, geographic location, and internal equity. The range has been created in good faith based on information known to Aflac at the time of the posting. Compensation decisions are dependent on the circumstances of each case. This salary range does not include any potential incentive pay or benefits, however, such information will be provided separately when appropriate. The salary range for this position is $83,000 to $193,000.
