MKS Instruments Inc Senior Manager of Quality in Wilmington, Massachusetts

A Day in Your Life at MKS:

As the Senior Manager of Quality for our Plasma & Reactive Gas business unit you will use your exceptional quality assurance experience to develop and implement quality strategies that ensure operational performance while complying with all relevant standards. This role reports to the Senior Director of Quality Engineering.

You Will Make an Impact By:

  • Providing leadership to the organization that helps drive a proactive approach leading to improvements in design, manufacturing, suppliers and customers.

  • Leading monthly management reviews for the Plasma and Reactive Gas business units and helping to drive continuous improvement on top issues impacting performance.

  • Actively facilitating improvement in new product development, continuous improvement activities & quality initiatives as well as customer interface and manufacturing processes to ensure quality and reliability requirements are well defined, understood, incorporated and met.

  • Analyzing customer returns and failure rates data in depth and provide trending analysis. Updating Quality Metrics and reviewing repair data for accuracy, determine root cause and CAPA (corrective and preventive actions) with a focus on systemic improvements. You will accomplish this by collaborating with Operations and Engineering, as needed, to determine root cause of both field and in-process failures.

  • Utilizing problem solving tools such as 8-Ds, 5 whys, and Fishbones to facilitate problem solving activities.

  • Enhancing the organization through the use and implementation of various tools such as quality plans, process flows, FMEA (failure mode and effects analysis), and DOE (design of experiments).

  • Driving and promoting a culture of quality within the organization.

  • Quality management system ownership, management of the Internal Quality System Audit Program, and conduct Quality System Management Reviews.

  • Internal and external customer service

    Skills that You Bring:

  • In-depth understanding of complex process manufacturing

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, or physics (MS preferred)

  • 10+ years of experience with a technical background (ex. R&D, materials science, new product development, etc.).

  • 10 + years of quality with effective and thorough knowledge of quality improvement tools such as:

  • Design quality tools, including D/PFMEA, DfX, Poke-yoke, New Product Introduction

  • Statistical decision-making methods including process capability analysis and DoE

  • Problem solving tools (8D, K-T and 5-Why?)

  • Ability to use statistical analysis tools (one of these such as Minitab, SAS, or Reliasoft.

  • Strong knowledge in assessing the maturity of quality management systems and deep familiarity with ISO 9001-2015.

  • ISO 17025 and ISO 14001 experience are preferred.

  • Analytical and technical ability (a problem solver).

    Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with product and component reliability

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interaction with customers and management

  • A change agent approach with strong functional team building abilities.

  • Experience working with large OEM organizations, particularly in the semiconductor industry and advanced markets a strong plus
